How we verify

No traveler is ever paid for a review, and no advisor can pay to rank higher. Ever.

Advisors

  • We review every agency by hand before it's listed. It must be actively selling travel and hold a CLIA or IATA (industry credentials) accreditation.
  • The agency confirms each of its advisors' CLIA or IATA numbers before the advisor's profile goes live. The agency owner has to check the number on CLIA's or IATA's website first, and agrees to our rules, which remove agencies that confirm numbers they didn't check.
  • Each profile says who checked the credential: "Confirmed by" the agency, or "Verified by TravelAgentReview" when we looked it up ourselves. It also shows when it was checked and when it expires. We spot-check agency confirmations, and we keep the numbers themselves private.
  • When a credential expires, it comes off the profile automatically until it's renewed.

How a review gets on the site

  1. The traveler asks for a review link on the advisor's profile, or the agency sends an invitation.
  2. The agency approves the request, and says whether it confirmed the trip happened. The traveler gets a private link by email that works once.
  3. The traveler writes the review. A writing helper may ask a question or two to help them add detail. The words are always the traveler's.
  4. The agency has 15 days to look at the review. If they do nothing, it's published automatically.

What can be removed

An agency can't remove a review because it's negative. A review can only be removed if it is:

  • off-topic, not about the trip or the advisor
  • fake, or can't be verified
  • sharing personal information, threats or hate speech
  • a duplicate

Every profile shows how many reviews the agency removed in the last 12 months.

The two review labels

  • Verified Traveler: the agency confirmed the trip.
  • Self-verified: the traveler says they took the trip, but the agency hasn't confirmed it.

Star ratings count Verified Traveler reviews only. That's true on the page and in the information we give search engines.

Money

Agencies only pay for access to the platform. Paying can't remove a review, hide one, or move an advisor up a list.

The rules agencies agree to

Every agency and advisor agrees to the Rules for agencies and advisors: no reviews from family, co-workers or business contacts, no rewards for reviews, and no asking only happy clients. Every traveler confirms they took the trip and have no connection to the advisor before their review is accepted.
